Mice Problems

The House Mouse is a major pest in the UK in both domestic and commercial properties, the mouse population has like the rat population seen an increase in the UK over the last few years.

Mouse droppings are sometimes the first evidence that people see that they have a mouse infestation. Many people think that because they see a lot of droppings then they must have a heavy infestation, however one mouse is capable of producing 80 droppings per day.

Mice require only the smallest of holes to squeeze through, a fully grown adult can pass through a hole the size of a pencil or your little finger.

Mice Case Study
A serious mouse infestation was encountered in an engineering company, not only were the mice very active on the factory floor, but frequent sightings were also seen in the main office block. Previous pest control had not been very successful which had culminated in computer wires being chewed by mice which had resulted in a breakdown of the computer system.

Enviropest were called in following the damage to the computers and identified that mice were active beneath the floor panels but were originating from the factory floor and by means of travelling through ducts were gaining access to the office area.

After carrying out several intensive treatments the mouse infestation was completely eradicated and in doing so has removed the danger of any further damage to computers.

Mice are capable of causing a lot of damage, their teeth are continually growing they therefore have to keep gnawing at objects to wear their teeth down.

This means they not only gnaw at food products but also wiring and cabling which in turn can create electrical and fire hazards.

Mice Reproduction

Mice are prolific breederes

Mice are even more prolific than rats in their reproductive life, their gestation period is three weeks. They are sexually mature after 8 weeks from birth and will have on average between 7 to 8 litters per year, in each litter there could be up to 16 youngsters.

Mouse Disease Facts

This is often the cause of food poisoning or upset stomachs. Other diseases associated with mice are Lyme disease and Hantavirus.
